home to his team’s 2-1 defeat by Croatia at Euro 2016 and believes the champions will grow from the experience to beat Italy Everything has come under scrutiny since Tuesday’s loss including coach Vicente del Bosque’s decision to field the same starting XI for a third straight game instead of resting players Yet the experienced Juanfran thinks people have been getting too carried away with their criticisms as the tension grows before Spain meet Italy in a repeat of the Euro 2012 final in what promises to be the marquee tie of the round of 16 “In most of the three games that we have played (at Euro 2016) we have been superior” Juanfran said in his news conference on Thursday “I think our defeat has been over-dramatised It was an unexpected defeat We have thought a lot about Croatia’s second goal and there was an excess of confidence on our part but we will correct that” Many have wondered why Sergio Ramos with the score 1-1 took the penalty that was saved when a midfielder or a striker could have done the job “The penalties are a decision taken by the coach during the game or if there is a penalty shootout” Juanfran said The Atletico Madrid defender a member of Spain’s Euro 2012-winning side is perhaps the perfect person to have in the changing room because he has learned how to cope with disappointment The 31-year-old came to the tournament on the back of a missed spot kick in the penalty shootout which ended up handing victory in the Champions League final to their Madrid neighbours Real Yet Juanfran always retains an upbeat attitude which he wants his team mates to share “The conclusions after the defeat are positive” he said “It’s there where you learn “We are convinced that we are going to qualify for the next round” Even against Italy one of the traditional heavyweights of international football “Any rival in the last 16 of a Euro is tough” Juanfran said adding that it was not entirely accurate to suggest Spain’s side of the draw is tougher “That remains to be seen” he said “I apply the Atletico philosophy — one game at a time” One cause for Spanish optimism is Alvaro Morata who has scored three goals in the last two games “Alvaro Morata is at a great level” Juanfran said “As a striker we can only ask him to score and he is giving us that” For all the latest Sports News download Indian Express App More Top NewsBy: PTI | Sisodia Sunday hit out at the BJP-run civic bodies accusing them of being saddled with “grave corruption” even as the AAP government announced a fresh fund of Rs 119 crore to the EDMC In a press conference held at his official residence the senior AAP leader claimed that “enough funds have been given to the municipal bodies but one doesn’t know where that money is being flushed out” Watch what else is making news: “The MCD has been telling that Delhi government has not given them funds So I am presenting some of the figures in this regard In 2012-13 Rs 399 crore was given as fund in 2013-14 Rs 416 crore and in 2014-15 it was Rs 441 crore “Then our government came and we released Rs 702 crore under non-plan head and in 2016-17 so far we have released Rs 609 crore Also till 2015 these funds were released with Rs 60-70 crore of loan adjustment But we gave them (MCD) the funds without such deductions So we want to ask where did that money go” he said “Is there a corruption pipeline opened by the civic bodies if these funds were not used” he alleged “Besides we have also released a fund of Rs 119 crore to the EDMC under the non-plan head and it should duly be used for payment of salaries The fund was released yesterday and it should reach the civic body soon” Sisodia told reporters The indefinite strike by the sanitation workers of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation which entered its third day on Sunday has left the trans-Yamuna region reeling under a garbage crisis with waste dumped in the open in several areas from Laxmi Nagar to Patparganj The APP-MCD politics heats up at a time when municipal polls are due this year and Sisodia said “People will teach them (BJP-led MCD) lessons in the elections From three seats (in Delhi Assembly polls) they would be wiped out completely this time” The AAP leader also took the opportunity to reach out to the sanitation workers saying “They were being exploited by the MCD and that they should expose these civic bodies” Sisodia also said as per the recommendation of the 14th Finance Commission “the civic bodies should get about Rs 3552 crore from the Centre “Now the government at the Centre and at the municipal level is of the BJP then why are they (MCD) not getting funds Also the civic bodies have to collect tax from DDA that has also not happened” he said “The MCD instead of collecting taxes properly is busy indulging in corruption in sanctioning building plans in unauthorised colonies If they collect these taxes properly they can pay for the salaries of these workers from even 10 per cent of that collection” Sisodia alleged The erstwhile unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was trifurcated in 2012 into North Corporation South Corporation and East Corporation For all the
