(Updated with Police Chief statement) Potential threat is being handled by WHS administrators

first_imgSubmitted by Wellington School Superintendent Rick Weiss — On Wednesday morning, February 12, 2014, a report was made to Wellington High School administrators of a written statement in the boy’s restroom indicating a potential threat at a future school event. According to the statement there was no immediate intent to cause harm. The Wellington Police Department was contacted and according to policy the building was inspected and canvassed for items that could disrupt the school day. All precautions will be taken to ensure a safe environment for WHS students at all times including future events at the school. The school district will work in cooperation with all law enforcement authorities on this situation.   By Tracy Heath, Wellington Police Chief — Wednesday, February 12th Wellington Police were notified by Wellington High School Administrators regarding the discovery of a “threatening message” found on WHS campus.WPD responded, began an investigation and discovered the “message” had first been seen on Tuesday, February 11th, however, prior to school Administrators being notified, the “message” was altered making it unreadable.
