first_imgBotswana’s athlete, Isaac Makwala, is among the 30 athletes said to be affected by suspected outbreak of norovirus in one of the World Championships official hotel in London.30-year-old Makwala, who is a major contender in the 400m, has been withdrawn from competing by the IAAF due to “medical conditions” after he vomited.Ireland also confirmed that their 400m hurdler Thomas Barr, have also been affected, following the collapse of Germany’s triple jumper Neele Eckhardt.A statement from the Local Organising Committee (LOC) read: “There have been a number of cases reported by team members residing within one of the official team hotels.”“Those affected have been supported by both team and LOC medical staff. In addition, we have been working with Public Health England to ensure the situation is managed and contained.”“As a result, further advice and guidelines have been issued to team doctors and support staff.”Although two cases have been confirmed to be the virus, Tower Hotel officials have declared that the hotel is “not the source of the illness”.“We have followed strict hygiene protocol, ensuring that those affected are not in contact with other guests and all public areas have been thoroughly sanitised.” the hotel added.Relatedlast_img
