Lallana tells talkSPORT: ‘Win over United would give Liverpool massive psychological boost’

first_imgAdam Lallana says victory over Manchester United on Sunday would give Liverpool a “massive psychological boost” in the battle to secure Champions League qualification.Sitting just two points behind United ahead of this weekend’s Anfield showdown, the Merseyside club would leapfrog their rivals into fourth spot in the Premier League with a win on home soil.In an exclusive interview with Drivetime before the crunch clash, Lallana admitted: “Psychologically for us it is massive.“If we win we go above United and we get one foot into the top four.”Lallana, however, insists Sunday’s game will not necessarily prove decisive in the battle for a top four finish.“There are still another eight games after and there is going to be twists and turns constantly I’m sure,” he said.“Tottenham and Southampton are still in and around the fight as well so they are going to be wanting to pick up points to make it three teams out of six trying to get in the top four.“It is exciting for the neutral and I’m sure it will go down to the wire.”Liverpool’s last meeting with Manchester United in December ended in a 3-0 loss, but they have been in outstanding form since then, with a 13-match unbeaten run getting them back on track after their dreadful start to the campaign. And Lallana admits confidence is high in the camp as his side bid to gain revenge against United.“We were struggling at the beginning of the season, but in the last few months we have definitely turned a corner,” he continued.“We are just focused on being consistent, keeping clean sheets and winning football matches.“We will be focusing on ourselves on Sunday, that’s what we have been doing, and confidence is high. We are very confident we can get the victory.”Tune into talkSPORT for live and exclusive national radio coverage of Liverpool v Manchester United on Sunday, kick-off 13:30last_img read more
